When self-esteem is unhealthy?

When people tend to see themselves in a negative or critical view. When they compare themself to others often in an unfavourable way. When they doubt their decisions, beliefs, actions? When they feel depressed or anxious due to their poor self-belief. When they minimise compliments they receive?

A person with healthy self-esteem is more confident, have a better and more positive self-view, feel ‘worthy’ or ‘good enough’.

The group improvement offers:

  • emotional and psychological support and understanding
  • in-between sessions activities
  • a chance to uncover or create some aspects of personality
  • help to process some unresolved issues
  • to show healthy coping skills
  • a possibility to develop a renewed sense of purpose

Loss and grief group therapy-10 weeks programme starts 29th April 2021

Coping with the loss of someone or something you love is one of life’s biggest challenges. You may associate grieving with the death of a loved one—which is often the cause of the most intense type of grief—but any loss can cause grief, including:

  • Divorce or relationship breakup
  • Loss of health
  • Losing a job
  • Loss of financial stability
  • A miscarriage
  • Retirement
  • Death of a pet
  • Loss of a cherished dream
  • A loved one’s serious illness
  • Loss of a friendship
  • Loss of safety after a trauma
  • Selling the family home

Any loss is important and sometimes we need a bit of help in accepting it.

Group therapy offers:

  • New insights into yourself
  • Emotional support from peers who understand the effects of loss
  • Permission to grieve openly
  • Gaining a sense of belonging and knowing that you are not alone
  • Processing unresolved issues that are extending your grieving process
  • Learning healthy coping skills
  • Developing a renewed sense of purpose as you help others

The group needs at least 5 participants to start.

Cost is €100 for 10 weeks programme and will be continued with another 10 weeks programme afterwards. Although it is a programme, it will be tailored to all participants needs.

Male Victims and Survivors of Bullying or Domestic Abuse Support Group launches in Cork

Open Doors is launching its first group therapy to help men experiencing bullying or domestic abuse now or in the past. Join us for support!

Who is it for?

If you’re a man experiencing bullying or domestic or family violence, you need to know: you are not alone. Husbands, partners, sons, fathers, grandfathers, uncles, brothers, nephews, friends, neighbours and colleagues from all walks of life and all ages can be affected.

You may feel powerless, worthless, depressed, lonely and isolated. Sometimes guilt, shame and despair are present. You may have problems with sleep or concentrate on tasks at work.

Remember that no one deserves violence. Domestic and family violence is against the law and is a crime. It’s not your fault and you’re not to blame for what is happening.

Join our support group!

Join our group therapy to start your recovery. We provide a safe and confidential space for you to talk about your experiences. More information about group therapy here.

What is Domestic Abuse?

Any incident or threatening behaviour, violence or abuse (psychological, physical, sexual, financial or emotional) between adults who are or have been intimate partners or are family members, regardless of gender or sexuality.

Forms of abuse

Abuse includes physical violence, verbal abuse, threatening behaviour, verbal threats, emotional/psychological abuse, financial abuse, sexual abuse, isolation and false allegations.
